As you all well know, Sam Heughan has a big heart and is a very generous man. He is active in multiple charities, raising awareness as well as donations, by personally participating in marathons and triathlons, being part of a celebrity running team for The Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research Organization (Bloodwise now.)

He said: “Acting has given me the opportunity to raise awareness and help gather donations. It’s important to do what I can, cancer has affected my family and I want to aid the fight against it.”

Bloodwise is a leading UK charity dedicated to improving the lives of patients with all types of blood cancer, including leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma. It was founded in 1960 following the death of a little girl, Susan Eastwood, aged six, from leukaemia. Her parents were determined to make something positive come from their personal tragedy and started fundraising for research that would hopefully find a cure for leukaemia.

Sam is also a patron of the Youth Theatre Arts Scotland.

Youth Theatre Arts Scotland

Youth Theatre Arts Scotland supports a membership of organisations and practitioners who engage around 25,000 young people in youth theatre activity every week. The mission of YTAS is to transform lives through youth theatre by providing inspiring participatory opportunities for young people in Scotland and by connecting, supporting and training the professionals who work with them.

Besides, Sam has teamed up with Fight Camp Glasgow’s John Valbonesi and Bear Strength Clothing to create My Peak Challenge in aid of Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research.

The Scottish actor explains in his own words:

“Basically, I wanted to share my love for the outdoors. Living and working in Scotland, I love climbing, the walking… I wanted something everyone could basically get involved and do, no matter where you are in the world, and raise money for charity and also create a community as well. So we created My Peak Fitness Challenge. Basically, you sign up and you choose your goal – whether that’s a walk in the park, or taking the stairs everyday at work, or climbing a mountain, or cycling down the river – whatever, wherever you are, you pick your goal.

We’re posting workout videos, but they’re all scalable – so no matter what your level of fitness – you’ll be able to do it, you’ll just scale it up or down. We’re doing health advice and creating some sort of community on Twitter, Facebook and hopefully raise money for charity as well.

I wanted to share that passion with all the friends and fans. There’ll be even more surprises in the future but for now I challenge you to make the first step with us and sign up today!”
